Finished! Well, nearly.

Last week Trudi sent through the long-awaited pictures of the completed terrace renovations.  We’re so pleased with the change, in spite of the fact that the railings aren’t quite what we were expecting.  But that’s part of what happens when there’s a 10-month delay between the job being discussed and quoted for and actually done.  Still, never mind.  I’ve some ideas as to how we might remedy some of the difference, but we won’t be able to do all.  And nothing will occur until we return to Les Terraces and see the finished work with our own eyes.

Of course, now that the railings are in we realise that there’s some touching up of paint to the rendering that must be done.  So now we have to find out where we can rent a small pressure washer so that we can do a good job of cleaning the surfaces prior to applying paint (to all of the terrace’s walls, not just the one upon which the work was done).  Thus begins another round of renovations at Les Terraces.

I have a running list in my head of the projects that I’d like to complete during this trip……… new tiles in the ground floor’s kitchen, covering the second floor’s access staircase with coir matting to reduce noise (this has been on the list for a while, but the challenges of laying coir on a U-shaped staircase are something that we’ve been avoiding), installing a hood over the hob in the second floor, fitting spring closers to a bathroom door, a new shelf in a kitchen, re-installing the loo-roll holders in 2 bathrooms.  There is more, trust me, but I’ve forgotten what they are for now.  Oh, a washing line for the ground floor terrace is another. Sometimes I feel that the house is like a big bridge, such as the Golden Gate – one never, ever, ceases to have maintenance to do!  Good thing that I enjoy it, isn’t it?
