Being here (as opposed to there)

We’ve been away for almost 6 months and “our floor” of the house, the second floor, hasn’t been used since we left so we expected to find it very dusty.  We were amazed and very pleased to find that it wasn’t.

Having stocked in some basic groceries and done some rudimentary unpacking we decided that we were due a decent meal so we headed off in to Les Sarments where we warmed ourselves by the fire and caught up with recent events with Catherine.  Oh, the steak with sauce Roquefort and Catherine’s wonderful garlicky potatoes were just what the doctor ordered.  After supper we made our way home to a very welcoming bed!

We slept soundly but were up in time for M. Destombes, the locksmith, who was scheduled to repair the knackered front door lock mechanism.  I’m not sure where the rest of the day went, but it did.  We did go to Bergerac Airport to pick up Mo and some essentials for the holiday weekend.  Where did the rest of the day go???

We’ve been watching the weather here like hawks for weeks and had expected it to be cold, but not this cold or wet.  Yesterday I decided to walk over to Bricorama to buy some new plants.  It rained.  Hard.  And the only footwear that I have with me on this trip is a pair of Crocs.  I got very wet.

Following that it remained only to have a skirmish around the Saturday market and buy some goodies (brebis de printemps, longues (Graham’s favourite oysters), a rotisserie chicken for lunch, a pain from the boulangerie on Rue Victor Hugo and so on) before heading home for a badly needed lazy afternoon.

This morning dawned fair.  Mo and I decided to walk down to the Le Clerc at Pineuilh to pick up some more groceries – if you’re the parent of a mid-teens boy you’ll understand why.  It was a nice opportunity to chat one-on-one.  Given that it was a holiday Monday we weren’t sure whether it was going to be open or not, so we planned with Graham that if it was we’d call him and he’d come and pick us up (I didn’t much fancy struggling home with a bottle of wine, some beer and enough eau gasseuse & cranberry juice plus food to last us for a couple of days).  We were lucky ….. I forget from holiday to holiday how much Mo eats… so the boy won’t starve until tomorrow!
